Fine Art |  GCSE Project

This project was a fundamental part to my portfolio, beginning to take shape. Throughout this project, I was constantly learning how to construct a successful and informed project through support from my lecturers. This project began with research into different artists who explore linguistic forms within art. These investigations allowed me to develop a more informed understanding of how the relevance of words relates to the overall message the art itself seeks to convey.

Annotations into some of my favourite romance poems allowed me to develop possible themes in the direction of poetry I wanted to work with. Using a range of online romance poems, I highlighted key words that related to each other, with the aim of relating these words together to create a story through the art form. I analysed many different artists who experimented with words, inspiring me into using unusual compositions and media choices. I also copied some artists’ work by creating my own version through their eyes, identifying the strategies and media they use to create a meaningful and impactful piece. This contributed to my growth in confidence through using new media and processes to show my development throughout the project.

Towards the end of this project, I began sketching and planning out potential ideas and compositions, beginning to plan how my final piece will be constructed and the materials and processes I will use. This helped me refine what exact message I wanted to communicate through my work, as well as planning the media I would use to make my project and final piece relevant to my initial project aim. Thumbnail sketches helped me plan out multiple compositions to identify the message I wanted to convey.

After exploring with image inspiration through research, I began selecting the imagery I wanted to use within my piece and what media I would use to present this imagery. I began planning how the images would be used and how the chosen poetic words would communicate my idea. I wanted my project to amplify romance and emotional connection, so selecting imagery was a part of my project that was incredibly important to communicate my thoughts and ideas.

Overall, my final piece successfully communicated the idea of emotional connection through the use of poetry, as well as how I’ve shown confidence in using various materials to create an informed and contrasting piece.
